From Gaza to Ukraine to Sudan – wars destroy livelihoods and push millions of people into hunger. Families lose their fields and income, and children are left without food. The climate crisis brings droughts, floods, and storms that wipe out harvests. Rising prices make it impossible for many to get enough to eat.
In 2023, 309 million people worldwide did not have enough to eat – an increase compared to 258 million in 2022.
Behind these numbers are children whose childhood becomes a struggle for survival. After just a few days, appetite and energy fade. Children become tired and unable to play or learn. After a few weeks, the consequences become life-threatening: muscles waste away, organs begin to fail, and eyesight deteriorates.
Every minute, an average of
35 children
are born into hunger. In 2024, this amounted to 18.2 million children worldwide.
Every year, 1 million children die from the consequences of hunger
