Over 100 years of standing up for children
Save the Children was founded in 1919 – after the First World War, when millions of children were left without protection or care. Since then, we have been active in more than 100 countries. In the last ten years alone, we have helped 122 million children survive.
Questions and answers
How quickly can aid arrive?
In acute emergencies, we act immediately – within 48 hours, our teams are on their way. Through our work with local partners and authorities, we can often reach children even where access is difficult.
What exactly does Save the Children do in emergencies?
We support health services, deliver medical supplies and food, strengthen vaccination and nutrition programmes, make education possible in emergencies, provide psychosocial support, and protect children from violence and exploitation.
What will my donation be used for?
It will be used wherever children need it most – for example, for medicine, food, education, protection or psychosocial support. Save the Children Switzerland is Zewo certified and is therefore committed to transparency and the audited use of funds.
Why Save the Children?
We have been active for over 100 years and are one of the world’s largest independent children’s rights organisations. We combine immediate aid with long-term recovery – and work consistently with local communities so that help really reaches those who need it.
What happens after the immediate crisis?
We stay on the ground. We support reconstruction, train local specialists and strengthen structures so that healthcare, education and protection continue to function over the long term – even after the headlines have moved on.
