We help when children need us most

Save the Children is there for children when they are at their most vulnerable and their world is turned upside down – whether after an earthquake, during a conflict or in the midst of a disease outbreak. When every hour counts, we help children survive, learn and be protected, even in the most remote corners of the world.

An earthquake can destroy in a single night what families have spent a lifetime building. Hunger weakens children before they have ever had the chance to go to school. Violence reaches them in places where they should be safe. In Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Yemen, Somalia and dozens of other crisis regions worldwide, it is children who suffer the most – and bear the least blame.

Save the Children is there where children need us most – whether the world is watching or not. And we stay on the ground, even when a crisis disappears from the headlines. Because the children are still there too.

🚨 Help that really reaches children

In a crisis, it is rarely just one thing that collapses. A displaced child may lose their home, their school, their protection and sometimes their family all at once. That is why we act on every level.

Four out of every five francs you donate go directly into our projects – audited and certified by ZEWO. You can be sure that your money goes where it’s needed the most.

Within 48 hours of a disaster, our teams are on their way to the affected area.

  • We provide medical care for sick and malnourished children.
  • We fight hunger and stop disease outbreaks.
  • We make sure that children can continue learning, even in emergency shelters.
  • We protect children from violence, exploitation and separation from their families.
  • We make sure that children have a voice, especially when no one else is listening.

Over 100 years of standing up for children

Save the Children was founded in 1919 – after the First World War, when millions of children were left without protection or care. Since then, we have been active in more than 100 countries. In the last ten years alone, we have helped 122 million children survive.

Questions and answers

In acute emergencies, we act immediately – within 48 hours, our teams are on their way. Through our work with local partners and authorities, we can often reach children even where access is difficult.

We support health services, deliver medical supplies and food, strengthen vaccination and nutrition programmes, make education possible in emergencies, provide psychosocial support, and protect children from violence and exploitation.

It will be used wherever children need it most – for example, for medicine, food, education, protection or psychosocial support. Save the Children Switzerland is Zewo certified and is therefore committed to transparency and the audited use of funds.

We have been active for over 100 years and are one of the world’s largest independent children’s rights organisations. We combine immediate aid with long-term recovery – and work consistently with local communities so that help really reaches those who need it.

We stay on the ground. We support reconstruction, train local specialists and strengthen structures so that healthcare, education and protection continue to function over the long term – even after the headlines have moved on.
