The ongoing war has been particularly hard on the children. Along with the constant danger of being killed or injured, they experience air raids, missile attacks and shelling on a daily basis. The continuing hostilities are intensifying their need for shelter, psychological support, food, healthcare, education, safe drinking water, sanitary facilities and hygiene articles.
Children must be allowed to experience childhood – always and everywhere.
Dmytro’s story
When the fighting began, Dmytro (15), his mother Olha and the rest of the family shut themselves in their house for a month. They had no electricity or running water. Today, their situation is still precarious, impacting the psychological well-being of Dmytro and his siblings. “The children have grown used to hearing shooting all day and they’re able to ignore it,” says Olha. “But in the night, they jump at every little sound.” Save the Children is helping Dmytro’s family by providing psychological care from qualified social workers. They also receive food, clothing and other essential supplies.
