Here you will find regular updates on the current situation in the Gaza Strip and on our aid efforts in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt. We are working in all affected areas to protect the lives of children and their families.

Last update: 19 March 2025

The resumption of hostilities in Gaza is holding children in an inescapable living nightmare. More than 400 people have been killed by the latest air strikes, with dozens of children reportedly among the casualties. Those attacks come after they have been cut off from essential aid and food, with repeated violations of the agreed pause in hostilities.

Bombs instead of emergency aid

Children are in no way responsible for the ongoing conflict but are paying the heaviest price. Instead of much-needed food, clothing and tents to help Gaza’s children survive, they are being attacked by air strikes that are killing, maiming and destroying the lives of children and families. The world cannot turn a blind eye as everything that gives the children in Gaza security and hope is being taken from them.

Our humanitarian work in Gaza

Since October 2023, we have delivered lifesaving aid to more than a million people in the Gaza Strip. Our teams are hard at work providing emergency aid, shelter and support to families in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.

We are ready to ramp up assistance immediately to protect the lives and future of children.

What Save the Children is doing…

The six-week ceasefire allowed us to provide crucial aid to over 51,000 people in the Gaza Strip. We distributed food packages and winter clothing, and provided families returning to northern Gaza with blankets, mattresses and pillows. Children and families also received medical care in our healthcare facilities, as well as mental health support in child friendly spaces.

Since October 2023, we and our partners have helped more than a million people in the Gaza Strip with lifesaving essentials, cash assistance, child friendly spaces and healthcare programmes.

Together with local partners, we are active in all parts of the country, delivering lifesaving medical aid and safe drinking water, and distributing food and cash assistance. We also provide access to safe learning spaces and child friendly spaces where children can play.

Since October 2023, we have scaled up our aid significantly and have helped more than 150,000 people, including almost 63,000 children. We provide child friendly spaces where children can play safely, receive mental health support and emergency aid. We also provide families with cash, food and hygiene kits, and we repair water systems.

We make cash available to families and offer counselling to help children to learn to cope with trauma and stress. We train medical staff on treating paediatric blast injuries and ambulance staff on dealing with frightened and traumatised children. We also equip ambulances and hospitals with important medical equipment such as baby incubators.

Our demands

Our demands remain clear and urgent:

1) An immediate and definitive ceasefire is the very least that these children deserve and the very least the international community is obliged to deliver.

2) Denying humanitarian aid is a crime under international law and a grave violation against children. This halting of aid will have devastating consequences for 1.1 million children in Gaza, which is already on the brink of famine. The suspension of aid must be immediately reversed and humanitarian assistance must be allowed to enter Gaza
