Ceasefire in Gaza

The announcement of a pause in hostilities offers a moment of relief, but for the children in Gaza, their precarious situation remains largely unchanged. Destruction is everywhere – houses, hospitals and schools lie in ruins. The traumatic experiences the children have suffered are unimaginable. While the world breathes a sigh of relief, we know that we have no time to lose.

Our work in Gaza

Since October 2023, we have provided more than one million people in Gaza with life-saving aid. Our teams are also working on the ground in the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt, providing emergency relief, protection and support for affected families.

We are ready to scale up our support immediately to protect the lives and future of children.

How does Save the Children help...

Since October 2023, together with our partners, we have provided more than one million people in the Gaza Strip with essential supplies, including drinking water, food, hygiene products, mattresses, blankets, educational materials and toys. We have also provided cash assistance, safe spaces and areas where children can play, as well as medical supplies and healthcare programmes. In recent weeks and months, our teams have provided thousands of families with food and winter parcels to help them get by in the cold temperatures.

Together with local partners, we provide life-saving medical aid and clean water in all parts of the country, as well as distributing food and cash. We also provide safe access to educational opportunities and child-friendly spaces for play.

We have significantly expanded our aid efforts since October 2023 and have so far reached more than 150,000 people, including almost 63,000 children. We provide safe spaces to play, psychological support and emergency aid. We also provide families with cash, food and hygiene kits. In addition, we repair water systems.

We provide families with cash and offer counselling to help children overcome trauma and stress. We train medical personnel to treat children with blast injuries and teach ambulance crews how to care for frightened and traumatised children. We also equip ambulances and hospitals with vital medical equipment such as baby incubators.

Our demands

Our core demands remain both urgent and clear:

1) An immediate and definitive ceasefire
2) Safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid.

We call on the international community to act immediately to protect children’s lives and their futures. An immediate and definitive ceasefire and safe access for humanitarian aid are essential to prevent further suffering.
